| The Great Pyramid of Giza was the tallest structure in the world for almost 4,000 years. It was topped by the wooden spire on Lincoln Cathedral, which is believed to have reached a height of about 525 feet. Erected in the early 14th century, the spire was blown off by a storm in 1548. |
