Friday 25 September 2009--A little slow this morning, but we are off to Skye by 10:00. An hour's drive, with a stop in Broadford for supplies, brings us past Portree, to a car park below the iconic Old Man of Storr. Despite gray windy weather, It's obvious we will not be alone on the trail--the little car park is jammed.

It's about an hour's walk up. Above the wooded area, strong gusting winds occasionally make walking difficult--several times I pause for a minute before making what would ordinarily be a reasonably easy downhill step. Despite all, the view is fabulous. The Old Man is much bigger up close than it looks from a distance, about 150 feet tall. I make a mental note to do this again in better weather.

We're back in time for an afternoon nap, followed by a sociable dram with two of our fellow guests. We dine at the Plockton Hotel, and intend to have a couple of quiet pints at the Inn before retiring early. But there is entertainment again, a band of young musicians called Bodega, warming up for an appearance at a festival in Glenelg tomorrow. They are all graduates of the local school, so this is a sort of homecoming for them. Very impressive...I'm not sure why they've named themselves after a Spanish grocery, though. I leave reluctantly after the first set, accumulated fatigue taking its toll (Ron left a little earlier).
