Sunday 13 September 2009--Ron's flight from Seattle, via Amsterdam, arrives at Aberdeen at 10:30. Scotland gives him
the same misty drizzly greeting it gave me Tuesday. The only place to get a cup of coffee in the airport is the bar, and it
doesn't open until 12:30 on Sunday. We hit the road straight away, figuring we can stop along the way to refresh and strategize.
There's nothing in Oldmeldrum, either, so we head on to Huntly, getting a bit lost along the way. We don't really care; despite
the weather, the bucolic countryside is lovely, and we're both happy to be here. The massive bales of hay, slowly making their
way to church this Sunday morning, greet us as we pass.
We make a side-trip, longer than it's worth, to photograph the GlenDronach distillery. It used to be "Glendronach", and
I can't say I like the new upper-case D...one word or two, Glendronach or Glen Dronach, make up your mind. Nevertheless, It's
heartening to see some of these dormant distilleries brought back to life under independent ownership.
In Huntly, we find a coffee shop for java and sandwiches, then walk up toward the castle. I haven't been here before,
and I have a sense that we're going to see just another castle, but we're pleasantly surprised--it's quite an interesting one.
We arrive in Craigellachie late in the afternoon, have a dram in the B&B, and cross the street to the Highlander for
pints and dinner. It's always nice to see new places, but it's also good to visit old favorites.
