Thursday 1 June 2023--I feel better this morning, so off we go. First, a loop around Slea Head, with a view of the Great Blasket. Then a visit to Reask Monastic Site, which the lads saw yesterday, and are revisiting for my benefit. There's a perimeter wall, and another dividing the interior; a cross slab; and the remains of several large clocháns, or beehive huts. "Little is known of the history of the site," says the interpretation board. All righty then. One bit of history I do know: Bobby fell down here yesterday, when his foot rolled on an uneven stone step. Fortunately, he was just a step above the grass, and the only injury was to his dignity. Today, he manages to stay upright.

Next is the oddly-shaped Gallarus Oratory. There are numerous of this type of edifice around, but this is the only wholly intact one. Its age (anywhere from early to mid-Medieval) and purpose (chapel, pilgrimage shelter) are open to interpretation.

On to Kilmalkedar Church. The site has some association with St Brendan, but this particular church dates to the 12th century. An ancient sundial and a stone with Ogham markings stand in the yard. Nearby is the ruin of a building known as St Brendan's House, probably a clerical residence.

That was our touring day...it doesn't sound like much, but it was worthwhile. I haven't given much information here; you could look these sites up, and you won't find much more.
