I own two good pairs of walking shoes, size 13 OBOZ that are a bit snug, and size 14 Merrells that are more comfortable. Somehow I have managed to pack the left of one and the right of the other. I put them on and go.

I walk out past a tower called Hussey's Folly, another Famine-era make-work project, and the lighthouse, and circle around the beach at Bín Bán. It doesn't occur to me that this is the same beach Bobby brought us to the other day, I guess just because I'm approaching it differently. My feet hurt pretty well by this point--it's not the shoes, but neuropathy and/or arthritis (depending on which doctor you ask). I push on nevertheless, my goal a cairn on the next hilltop. From there, I return the way I came to town.

Five and a half miles is a lot for me these days...I'm thinking to have a pint at Dick Mack's, but it's very crowded in there, and in Foxy John's, too. Head back toward the guesthouse, meaning to have a shower and a nap, but I run into the lads coming the other way, and join them for a pint in Curran's. They reached their goal today, and I reached mine. A good day.
