Wednesday 22 November 2023--Beach day! I get coffee and a bagel at the local Tim's, then drive back around West Lake and park at the start of a trail through the dunes. I'm thinking it will take me out toward the middle of the four-and-a-half mile long Lakeshore Beach, but I end up instead at the southern end, a mile walk from where I parked. Along the way, I note that the road to the main parking area, which was gated when I drove by it yesterday, is open. So back I tromp to the car, and drive down to the car park. It's a short walk from there through the dunes to the beach. I see some people in the distance, but feel I have the beach pretty much to myself. I understand that in summer, entry to the park is by permit, available five days in advance, and in high demand.
After I've had my fill of the beach, I visit two breweries in Bloomfield: first, Matron Fine Beer, where I make friends with the hefty brewery cat, and then All My Friends Beer Company. I have dinner at Midtown Brewing again. Wellington is not a big place, quite a bit smaller than Picton, actually; but there are several interesting restaurants in the village, as well as a Japanese whisky bar, of all things, which I regret not getting to. Hopefully I will be back.
