Monday 29 October 2012--With a full day free in Amsterdam, there is so much edifying stuff that I could do...but I'm lazy, it's the last day of my
vacation, and I just want to chill. Sleep in quite late to start. Before I'm out, I have a message from the airline, informing me that I'm rebooked for
tomorrow.
Wander around town a while, and find a large English bookshop, where I pick up Ian Rankin's latest Rebus novel. It's only been out a couple of
days--I'd have gotten it cheaper in the UK, if I'd been near a bookshop.
Take an afternoon nap back at the hotel--told you I'm lazy--and then go out for the evening's pub tour. There's a brewpub, Bier Fabriek; then
Café de Doelen and Café de Saloon. Somewhere in there, I have a döner kebab. Two, actually. Find myself back near the hotel, not quite ready to call
it a night. Up the street, I stumble into Gollem's Proeflokaal, a busy bar with some tasty Belgian beers. My last glass is a Karmeliet Tripel, and I
savor it while taking in the atmosphere. I don't even mind that it's quiz night at Gollem's.
