Thursday 21 October 2010--A Dutch biker gang was in the house last night, ten middle-aged guys spending their holiday cruising around the
Highlands in Scottish weather. The shared bathrooms are very busy this morning, and I try mostly to stay out of their way. Shower after
breakfast and get out late.
Before leaving town, I drive out to the end of the road to Canisp Lodge. Walkers going up Suilven prefer to park out by the
lodge, saving a couple of miles, but space for cars is very limited. Seeing the situation for myself makes the whole thing seem that
much more possible.
The drive down to Plockton is very scenic, but it's a dismal rainy day. Wonder how the biker lads are making out. I stop for
lunch at the Seaforth in Ullapool--Cullen skink, of course--and then pass up the coastal roads in favor of the more direct inland route.
Pick up a bottle of whisky at the Spar in Lochcarron.
Session night at the Plockton Inn, with the usual Thursday night crew, the session I wish Scott and Win could have witnessed. I
share a table with a couple from Edinburgh--actually, he's from Manchester, and she's from Shetland. We have a nice chat, mostly about
her homeland. She misses it, and so do I.
