Tuesday 22 October 2013--Drive up to Bamburgh, then west past Wooler. Cross the border into Scotland one last time and skirt Kelso, roughly following the Tweed upstream. Pass through Selkirk and Moffat, go up the M74 a way, then along the A702 through the Lowther Hills. Pass by Thornhill and arrive, finally, in Moniaive. It's been a long, zig-zaggy route.

I have no real reason to be here, actually--I needed a night between Seahouses and Glasgow, and picked Moniaive almost at random. It's rather a detour, into a part of Scotland I don't know well. Moniaive seems a charming enough village, although the center of it is torn up with roadworks at the moment. I have a pint at the George, and dinner and more pints at the Craigdarroch Arms, where I'm staying. Watch the footy on the telly with the local lads in the public bar. A pretty unremarkable evening in a fairly unremarkable place, which is just fine.
