15 October 2015--Didn't want to be as lazy as I was yesterday, but wasn't too ambitious, either. Drove to Skye, turning left at Broadford onto the road to Elgol. The scenery along here is spectacular, and I took much better photos than this one, but I thought it worth showing you one of the minor antiquities I saw today. This is Dun Ringill, which may or may not have originally been a broch. Whatever distinguishing broch-like features it may have had are obscured either by its ruinous state, or by alteration during its centuries of use--it was occupied up into the 19th century. It was evidently the seat of the Skye MacKinnons for several centuries. The one thing I know about it for sure is that it was the subject of a song by Jethro Tull--Ian Anderson lived for a time at nearby Kilmarie House.
