Monday 26 September 2022--This is the first time I've been to the UK
without renting a car. It's a relatively short stay, and the places I'm staying--
Seahouses, Edinburgh, Glasgow--are places where the car would sit, anyway. I
thought briefly about spending a night or two on Holy Island, for which I'd
probably need a car--there's a bus daily in summer, but in the off-season it's
once a week--but when I looked at a rental out of Edinburgh Airport, the cost
was astronomical. It was less if I picked it up in town, but still more for a few days
than it was for eight days in Norway. So never mind. I take the train to Berwick-
upon-Tweed, and then the X18 to Seahouses. The bus stops right in front of my
B&B, the same one I've stayed in most of my visits here, where my tweed
jacket once spent a whole year without me.
I get dinner in one of the chippies, and then pints at the Olde Ship, where I
swap travel stories with some fellow patrons. I'm not really too sure what I'm
going to do for the next three days. The standard thing is to walk up and down
the beaches, but I don't know how much walking I'm up for, and the weather
forecast isn't too good, either. All I really want is some R&R in a familiar and
comfortable place, after the long Norway trip.
