Wednesday 28 September 2022--The weather forecast for today and tomorrow is not good. I would probably take the day off from walking in today's rain, but I don't want to stay in two days in a row, so I put on my waterproofs and head north, into the wind, toward Bamburgh, about four miles away. I figure I can stay in tomorrow and dry out whatever needs drying out.

The wind and rain get worse as I go along, and much of the walk is spent with my head down. It's not a good day for photography...I do my best.

In Bamburgh, I have time for a pint at the Castle Inn. I order at the bar, and sit on a stool against the opposite wall. The barmaid fetches a mop and bucket and mops up the spot I was standing at, leaving one of those yellow "wet floor" tent signs. I feel vaguely humiliated. How is it I'm the only wet person here?

The X18 carries me back to the B&B in Seahouses. The waterproofs have kept me from getting soaked, but the clothes underneath are nonetheless damp. I put on dry pants and socks and shoes and head out for dinner under a light drizzle. As I turn the corner at the Co-op, someone turns on the wind and rain machine, and I'm soaked before I can get to the Bamburgh Castle Hotel. I have dinner there again, and pints at the Olde Ship again. There isn't a whole lot to tell when I stay in Seahouses, but I like the place, and I really like the pub. In traveling, there's a time to explore, and a time to find comfort in the familiar.
