Thursday 28 September 2023---Our ferry is at midday, and the terminal is a mile from the hotel, so we sleep in a while. Still, we want to be in the queue early, as boarding is first come, first served. We get coffee and a bagel at Tim's, and then hang out at the terminal. It's a pleasant sunny day. I mentioned somewhere before that the north shore terminal at Saint-Siméon is actually south of the south shore terminal, as the river is more north/south here than east/west. As well, the route dips southward to round the tip of l'Île-aux-Lièvres, a long slender island that is mostly wild, although there is an auberge toward the north end that looks interesting. A bit out of my price range, I think. The crossing takes an hour and ten minutes. We land at Saint-Siméon and stop for lunch at a restaurant at the top of the hill, with a view over the river. It's a half-hour drive to the ferry that crosses the mouth of the Saguenay River, and just a few minutes from the landing on the other side to our lodgings. I had some trouble finding somewhere reasonably priced to stay here, and ended up booking an apartment that was a bit more expensive than I would have liked, and looked, in the online photos, rather cozy (i.e. small). It turns out to be quite spacious and well-appointed, and I feel some regret that we are only staying two nights. We walk down to the Microbrasserie Tadoussac for a pint or two. Since I was here last, the microbrasserie acquired the pub up behind, and we planned to have dinner there. We're disappointed to find that it's closed for the season. We dine instead at La Galouine, the hotel from which we rented our apartment. Next |
