Saturday 23 October 2004--Today I set about exploring Bute. In Rothesay, I visited the castle. I wasn't expecting much,
and it is a small castle, but I was surprised to find so much of the history I've been chasing around the past few years coalescing there.
Bruces, Stewarts, Normans, Vikings...all present. Rothesay itself is a somewhat shabby and rundown old resort town, a holiday center for
Glaswegians in the days before cheap airfare to Spain and Greece.

Thursday 23 October 2014--Another gray day. We are off to Glasgow, staging for departure. Arrive at our hotel in the West End a
little early to check in, so we go for a meander through the Botanical Gardens, across the street. Once checked in, we take a stroll down
Byres Road, stopping for dinner at Tennent's. From the bottom of Byres, we cut up through Kelvingrove Park, ending at the Inn Deep for
another pint. Ron once again retires early, and I go for another pint or two at Òran Mòr. We've done very little the past two days...
it's the end of the trip, when there is a tendency to give up on running around. The dull weather contributes to the lazy mood, as does,
oddly enough, being in Edinburgh and Glasgow. I don't think either of us is much bothered about it.
