Wednesday 27 September 2017--I choose to sleep in this morning while Marc
goes up the tower at Hallgrímskirkja and does a little exploring. We go to the
National Museum after lunch, and then I drag Marc to my favorite café,
Kaffihús Vesturbæjar. Marc doesn't drink coffee, so I guess it's pointless
bringing him there...but I really like the atmosphere.
It's a bit of a walk from the kaffihús back to the center of town, and we're ten minutes along when I realize I don't have my phone. I hustle back there while Marc trails along slowly. The staff has my phone behind the counter; I'd left it on the table. I thank them and start hustling back toward Marc, only to find him walking very briskly toward me. He's left his phone in the kaffihús, too. He finds it in the gents' restroom, right where he'd left it. We start again toward town, shaking our heads, not quite able to laugh at our collective stupidity. The sun is shining when we reach Austurvöllur, so we order a couple of pints at Cafe Paris and take them out to a table on the sidewalk. The sun is gone within a few minutes, but we don't care. We didn't do a lot today, but we don't care about that, either. We're both happy just to be hanging out in Reykjavík. We're looking to dine a little more cheaply this evening. The prices at Eldsmiðjan, the pizzeria on the corner of our street, aren't too bad by Icelandic standards, and a friendly local points out to us that there is a discount for ordering online. He helps us to get what we want by phone from the room upstairs, on his account, so we don't have to create one. He pays by debit, and we give him cash. It all seems a little funny, but hey, a discount's a discount. Next |
