Friday 25 October 2024--Ron heads off to see a museum or two this morning. I take a shower and go back to bed. After two weeks in the car together, we're happy, I think, each to do our own thing.
I get out after noon and find a Cuban sandwich and coffee at Guajira, a Latino café on St Mary's Street. Then I head off south, past the university, across the Meadows and Bruntsfield Links, and down Morningside Road, to the Canny Man's, a pub I've been meaning to visit for some time. It's a quirky place, the walls cluttered with vintage photos and artifacts, the floors covered with well-worn oriental rugs. I'd stay for dinner, but it's very busy, and I'm told the small table I've found to sit at is booked in a short while. I finish my pint and go up the street to the Merlin, a pub in the Belhaven chain. It's similar to a Wetherspoon's in intent, but better kept than some of J D's I've been in.
Catch a bus up to George IV Bridge, and go down to the Bow for a nightcap. I messaged Ron from the Canny Man's to see if he wanted to meet me somewhere or other, but he's retired early.
