Sunday 27 October 2024--The clocks changed last night, the end of Summer Time giving me an extra hour to sleep in. I take that, and a good bit more. I have a very lazy day, the highlight of which is walking by the Scottish Parliament and peering into the lobby of the King's Gallery.

My old pal Kenny (the one from Crieff, not the one from Plockton) had hoped to be at the Bow last night, but couldn't make it. However, he and his wife have arranged to play at the session at the Ensign Ewart this evening. I meet them there--hard to believe it's been fourteen years since Kenny and I last had a pint at the Bow together. Linda, the missus, is from Western Australia, and exhibits the open friendliness that seems to be typical of Aussies. (I don't know what's become of the previous wife, whom I met in Crieff long ago, and don't ask.) I tell Kenny that I'm really tired and don't know how long I'll stay, but I last the duration. After, we walk down the Royal Mile together, and Kenny points out the window of the first flat he lived in away from his childhood home, and wonders how much the rent has gone up in the intervening decades. I hadn't realized he was an Edinburgh lad. Off we go to our respective beds.
