Wednesday 24 September 2025--It's not a long drive to Fredericton, about two hours, so we hang around in Moncton long enough to see the tidal bore. Then I drive mostly along the old road, the route we had to take in the bus before route 2 was finished. It's almost entirely empty of traffic, and doesn't take much longer than the highway. The last stretch is along the Saint John River, a pretty drive. I've wanted for ages to stop at Silver Valley Farms (formerly Harvey's) to get a photo of the Big Potato, another work of Winston Bronnum's.

The apartment we're staying in tonight is in a house that belongs to Graystone Brewing, which we visited in 2023. There are complimentary cans of beer in the fridge, and a gift card for use in the pub itself. Hard to argue with free beer. We pick up some supplies at Victory Meat Market, an attractive little grocery that makes me think this would be a nice neighborhood to live in. Then we take a walk up and down the town, which isn't very big, in search of somewhere to have dinner. There's a good choice of restaurants, but nothing really calls to us, certainly not the local St Louis. Settle on RustiCo, a brewpub right next door to the Victory market. We ate there the last time we were here, and we're happy with it now. Our gift card gets us a pint at Graystone for a nightcap.
