Friday 4 October 2019--I take the train back into Amsterdam, and end up having to wait a while in the lobby of my hotel, close by the train station, before checking in. I then proceed to take another long nap. Ron Thomson arrives late in the afternoon, fresher and more energetic than I am, despite his long journey from Seattle. I take him over to the Jordaan, my favorite Amsterdam neighborhood, for a visit to a couple of my favorite cafes. I've been in Cafe 't Smalle many times, but never in the little upstairs room before. The steep, narrow stairway is not really suitable for wobbly geezers with size 14 feet.
