Saturday 26 October 2013--I'm headed north to Plockton today. I'm
supposed to find a garage in Glasgow that will take care of the flat tire I have in
the trunk, before I go. Of course, I should have done this some time in the past
couple of days...I'm good at putting such things off. I call the garage and ask how
to get there. The fellow I talk to is utterly incapable of giving directions. In the
end, I blow it off. The spare that was put on is a full-size one, a rarity these days.
I'll just cross my fingers and hope I have no other tire issues in the next few days.
As I have several times over the past few years, I eschew Erskine Bridge and
the route along Loch Lomond, instead taking the Gourock--Dunoon ferry
across the Firth of Clyde, then heading toward Inveraray. But when I reach the
junction with the A83, I am confronted with a road diversion, apparently due to
a bad accident. I'm forced to go the wrong way over the pass known as Rest
And Be Thankful, and end up on the A82 alongside Loch Lomond after all,
an hour or two later than I would have been had I gone that way in the first place.
On the plus side, I guess, I get to go through Glen Coe this way.
It's raining when I stop for a break in Fort William. I'm sure I must have been here
some time when it wasn't raining, but I can't remember when. Rain falls all the rest
of the way to Plockton. I arrive at 6:00, and am greeted by Malinky, Teresa's
large curly-haired dog, when I enter the B&B. I'm always happy to be here.
